Variations on a Good Theme

We often get requests for customizations and variations to our standard product offerings, and many are incorporated in tailoring a boat to meet that customer's particular sailing plans.Recently, we had a couple such requests that have resulted in a modification to the 4400 optional offerings.

Tartan 4400 CCR
The first modification to our 4400 is a natural progression of our highly successful and popular Cruise Control Rig from a standard rig.  The CCR sailplan features a carbon fiber “pocket boom” for simplified mainsail handling and a self tacking jib for efficient upwind sailing.  The addition of a masthead 150% reacher completes the rig design and offers great all around sailing performance for the sophisticated sail tweaker in all of us.  One key element to the CCR rig is an increase in the base sail area, increasing the sail area/displacement ratio.  This modification maintains a healthy dose of horsepower for the light stuff, even flying the smaller self-tacking jib.

Tartan 4400, 2 couples, 2 kids, 2 heads
The second request came from a couple that attended the Annapolis fall boat show.  Their plans include some extended time aboard with children.  They loved the airy feel of the main living areas on the 4400, but they really wanted to have three cabins and two heads.  We were uncertain during the show, whether or not that combination would be workable in the 4400, so we left with the promise to follow up with some concept sketches.  The result is the layout below, the forward owner's stateroom is maintained, a Pullman style double bunk bed cabin to starboard with a shared head and the standard aft cabin and aft head.  By keeping the majority of the boat consistent with our standard 4400 a personalization such as this can tailor the boat to a particular need without breaking the bank on a full custom project.

Contact your DEALER or the FACTORY with your particular requirements, we'll enjoy the challenge, you'll like the results.
