Repair, Restore, Renew & Renovate: The New Tartan Refit Program

Introducing the new Tartan Refit Program

An opportunity for owners of Tartans of all vintages to have work completed by the company with the deepest knowledge of how your boat was built.

This is an opportunity for owners of Tartans of all vintages to have work done by the company with the deepest knowledge of how your boat was built. Repair, restore, renew, or renovate, we can do it all. Bring your Tartan back to its original condition or reimagine your Tartan with new upgrades such as Harken electric winches, a new windlass, a bow thruster for maneuvering into that tight dock space, interior modifications, or even a re-rig with a new custom carbon mast from our sister company, AMP Spars. If having the latest electronics from Raymarine or Garmin is on your radar, Tartan refit is the place for you. Tartan Refit can make your Tartan look like new with fresh paint on the hull or deck in our newly installed, state of the art 20’ x 65’ Duroair spray booth.

Tartan 27 Hull Number 295 | Recently Completed Refit Project

T27 295 was originally built for Cleveland native Bob Manry after he sailed his 13 1/2-foot Tinkerbell across the Atlantic.  At the time Tinkerbell was the smallest sailboat to make the transatlantic passage single handed.  With the T27, Bob, his wife Virginia, their children Robin and Doug, their German shepherd Chrissy and their cat Fred did an 8,000-mile Great Loop in Curlew.  Other than a few overboard incidents and Fred temporarily going missing when nearing completion of the trip on the Erie Canal, all made the trip unscathed.

The current owners wanted to bring Curlew back to near original condition, except for upgrading hardware, sails, electronics and air conditioning. This past summer, Curlew participated in the Falcon Cup race.  The Falcon Cup is a long-standing race from Cleveland Yacht Club to Mentor Harbor Yacht Club and has been won several times by the T27.  Mentor Harbor was Curlew’s home port and Tartan founder Charlie Britton’s home club, so it was a bit of a homecoming for Curlew.
